This paper will explore the perceptions of death by young children. Development of death concepts, cognitive and emotional understandings, and grieving patterns are examined. Awareness by early childhood educators of a child\u27s mourning process can lead to a healthier outcome for bereaved children, lessening instances of complicated grief or secondary stressors. Implications of findings advocate a nurturing attitude and open discussions between bereaved children and educators
