The Global Association of International Sports Federations (n.d.) granted pole sports Observer Status, and with that, the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) took another step towards making the sport an Olympic one. This is controversial amongst the public, scholars, and the pole community itself. Critics such as Charlene Weaving (2020) have argued that poling is sexualized, objectifying, and should not become an Olympic sport. This article utilizes ethnographic data to provide a counterpoint perspective oriented by actor-network theory. A pole is simply a metal apparatus.
