Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2019Multidisciplinary studies including phylogenetic inference, functional morphology and phylogenetic comparative methods are imperative to understand how closely related species evolved. By combining those three approaches we aim to disentangle the evolution of morphological traits and their influence on swimming behavior and performance, both within multiple microhabitats for Neotropical tree frogs. The subfamily Hylinae includes 163 species; they have three main locomotion modes with a direct impact on species fitness: they jump, swim and climb.
