Thesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2018Chapter 1 describes the nickel-catalyzed hydroarylation of alkenes. This reaction involves reductive cross coupling of alkenes and aryl halides in the presence of a silane as the hydride donor. High anti-Markovnikov selectivity is achieved in this reaction, and broad functional group compatibility demonstrates its utility, coupling a wide range of alkene substrates, such as alkyl- and aryl-substituted alkenes as well as enol ethers and diene.
