Thesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2018Many of Alaska’s salmon fisheries are models of biological success in terms of population size, structure, and stability, utilizing the precautionary principle to promote maximum sustainable yield. At the same time the fisheries include multiple stakeholders with conflicting viewpoints and challenges. The State of Alaska has a statutory priority to ensure subsistence stakeholders receive the harvest they need first, while distributing the opportunity to harvest any abundance of fish thereafter equitably amongst the remaining user groups.
