Thesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2017-08Objective: This article reports and interprets estimates of global incidence of major limb amputation due to traumatic causes. Design: A secondary database descriptive study to report amputation incidence and incidence rate per 100,000 using the extensive 2015 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) results was conducted. Results: In 2015, 1.2 million people sustained major limb amputations due to traumatic causes worldwide. Leading traumatic causes of limb amputation were war (27.1%), other unintentional injuries (18.4%), falls (13.3%), mechanical forces (10.5%) and road injuries (8.1%). The highest incidence is seen in Middle East and North Africa (370,800 UI 261,745 to 479,854) due to high incid...
