John Faris was born in Granveiw, Washington in 1921. He attended Reed College in Portland and the University of Washington - Seattle where he received his Ph.D. in 1951. Faris joined the physics Department at Stout in 1968. While at Stout, Faris taught classes in such areas as optics, electronics, physics, statistics, and mathematics.
