: The human settlement in Eurasia: the mountainous Central Asia and the sub-himalayan piedmonts from Plio-Pleistocene to Holocene, origins, human evolution and migrations.

International audienceDuring the years 1996 and 1997 a team of the Laboratory of Prehistory, National Museum of Natural History, Paris, and of the Department of Archaeology, Karachi and Peshawar University, Pakistan, leads the first prehistoric field investigations in the District of Chitral, Hindu Kush, Pakistan, close to the Wakhan Corridor (the Amu Daria course in the Pamir). Problematics are the origins and the becoming of the Epipalaolithic/Neolithic hunters-gatherers known in the Pamir Plateau and the Gissar Range, the lithics tradition of which share common roots with the Sub-himalayan Soanian tradition (Mode 1). A second field investigation has been conduced in the North West India, since the years 2003 in cooperation with the Department of Archaeology and Museums of Punjab, India, to understand the relations between the Soan and Acheulian industries developed during the Pleistocene, in the Frontal Range of the Siwaliks and Himachal Pradesh. Anthropological and archaeological data support the hypothesis of Asian Homo sapiens origins.En 1996 et 1997, une équipe du laboratoire de Préhistoire du Muséum national d?histoire naturelle engage des prospections dans le nord de l?Hindou Kouch (district de Chitral), en coopération avec le Département d?Archéologie et des Musées du Gouvernement de Karachi ainsi qu?avec le Département d?Archéologie de l?Université de Peshawar. Le but de ces missions vise à établir une étude des connections entre l?Asie centrale et l?Inde du Nord Ouest (Potwar, Punjab) dès le Pléistocène inférieur (Soanien), et à comprendre l?origine des chasseurs-cueilleurs épipaléolithiques/néolithiques héritiers du Soanien, disparus au cours de l?âge du Bronze. Depuis 2003, l?équipe poursuit ses investigations dans l?Inde du Nord Ouest (chaîne frontale des Siwaliks, Etat du Punjab) en coopération avec le Département des Affaires Culturelles, d?Archéologie et des Musées du Punjab pour tenter de comprendre les origines du Soanien (Mode 1), ses relations avec l?Acheuléen (Mode 2) qui disparait et les modalités de son évolution jusqu?à l?Holocène. L?approche paléoanthropologique met en évidence une origine asiatique des Homo sapiens fossillis étudiés
