Todd McClelland, a Tech graduate (ME ’94) and cybersecurity lawyer, will address how cybersecurity issues now have important implications throughout the enterprise. Todd will discuss how legal developments have also increased the risk to the cybersecurity professional. The presentation will begin with a discussion of cybersecurity issues permeating the corporate enterprise. He will discuss, for example, how cybersecurity issues are now material to mergers and acquisitions, third party vendor risk management, corporate governance, risk management, HR, and even corporate benefits administration. The discussion will then examine how laws are evolving to put a greater emphasis on cybersecurity. The presentation will highlight evolving data breach requirements, increasingly granular cybersecurity requirements under CCPA, GDPR and other data protection laws, benefit plan sponsor fiduciary requirements, and SEC reporting enforcement actions to illustrate the point that cyber-related laws are increasing and impacting every facet of the corporate enterprise. Finally, Todd’s presentation will give specific examples of recent cases that directly impact cybersecurity professions, including the recent investor lawsuit against SolarWind’s VP of Security Architecture, CEO and private equity owners; as well as the criminal complaint against the former Uber chief security officer
