Landfill leachate is a highly concentrated organic wastewater with complex compositions. It is a major source of pollution potentially threatening the quality of groundwater, surface water, and life forms. The treatment of landfill leachate consists of various combination processes such as biological, chemical and physical methods. In this study, raw leachate was subjected to an anaerobic treatment using a modified anaerobic baffled reactor (MABR). Initially, the start-up of the MABR system was accomplished using meat extract as synthetic feed.
