Since its launching in 1996 Al-Jazeera has evoked two lines of questioning the importance of which becomes obvious when we look at its coverage of the official Arab political scene, the second Palestinian intifada, and the September 11th attacks in 2001 and their aftermath. First the objective is to understand how a TV station, considered being insolent, came to see the light of day in an authoritarian environment. Secondly, the question of the reasons that allowed it to distinguish itself arises, notably, in its coverage of the two regional ‘seismic epicentres ‘, in this case the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the invasion of Iraq.
