Excerpt from the report: A study was made to determine the labor and equipment requirements and costs of the present system of packing mature-green tomatoes and to develop more efficient systems of packing. These systems were developed around work methods now in use in Florida packinghouses. For purposes of comparison in this report, a packinghouse packing an annual volume of 12 million pounds of mature-green tomatoes (200,000 60-pound boxes or 300,000 40-pound boxes) with a 31-man crew was taken as being representative of the present packing system
