Plantas medicinales de los Tének de San Francisco, Chontla, Veracruz, México

Medicinal plants constitute one of the most important resources of traditional Mexican medicine. The state of Veracruz has a great floristic and cultural wealth that has allowed the development of herbal knowledge. Although there are several studies that record the medicinal use of plants, there are still geographical areas and native cultures with little or no information. This is the case of the Tenek or Huasteca region located northeast of the State. For this reason, the present study investigated the herbal knowledge of the Tenek community of San Francisco, Municipality of Chontla, Veracruz. A total of 97 species of medicinal plants that make up the floristic list were registered, which are included in 53 families and 84 genera. Eight new records of medicinal species were found for Veracruz. The cultural significance of seven species was determined using the fidelity index (FL) that includes the priority range (ROP) and relative popularity (RPL), and the use value index for the parts of the plants used was calculated. The results of this research document and demonstrate the floristic and cultural richness in relation to the knowledge, use and management of medicinal plants in the Tenek indigenous community of San Francisco, Chontla, Veracruz.Las plantas medicinales constituyen uno de los recursos más importantes de la medicina tradicional mexicana. El estado de Veracruz cuenta con una gran riqueza florística y cultural que ha permitido el desarrollo del conocimiento herbolario. Si bien existen diversos estudios que registran el uso medicinal de las plantas, aún quedan áreas geográficas y culturas autóctonas con escasa o nula información. Este es el caso de la región tének o huasteca ubicada al noreste del Estado. Por esta razón en el presente estudio se investigó el conocimiento herbolario de la comunidad tének de San Francisco, Municipio de Chontla, Veracruz. Se registraron un total de 97 especies de plantas medicinales que conforman el listado florístico, las que se incluyen en 53 familias y 84 géneros. Se encontraron ocho nuevos registros de especies medicinales para Veracruz. Se determinó la significancia cultural de siete especies mediante el índice de fidelidad (FL) que incluye el rango de prioridad (ROP) y la popularidad relativa (RPL), además se calculó el índice de valor de uso para las partes de las plantas utilizadas. Los resultados de esta investigación documentan y demuestran la riqueza florística y cultural en relación al conocimiento, uso y manejo de plantas medicinales en la comunidad indígena tének de San Francisco, Chontla, Veracruz
