Albeit the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is widely used to reduce the nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions from large marine two-stroke engines, several challenges emerge for the engine−turbocharging system matching considering the contradictory requirements of the engine and its subsystems operation. Such challenges become more pronounced in complex engine configurations that include parallel turbochargers and the EGR system along with cut out and bypass branches.
