Physiotherapy is frequently prescribed to reduce pain and optimize functioning for people with musculoskeletal conditions. In the past 25 years, there has been an increase in studies investigating its efficacy. At the same time, innovative models of management for people with musculoskeletal conditions have been developed. This review speculates as to how the results of these studies might alter physiotherapy management to deliver more appropriate, effective interventions and maximize resource use. It is not intended to be an evidence-based review of these modalities or models of care.
