Abstract : Have NGOs become “multinational companies of collective action”? Whether they work with the field of human or environmental development, these organisations have been using the practices of private companies for about thirty years. A pre-eminent example is that of direct marketing. Some people consider it a necessary development, while others claim it shows that non-profit organisations have been corrupted by free trade- and global market-type thinking.
