Nurses try to give humanized care at the patient who is dying, but they can find obstacles to do. Objective: to understand the meaning that nurses give the care of the person who is in the terminal phase of life. Methodology: qualitative research with ethnographic approach was used; interviews were conducted with 23 nurses and 100 hours of observation in a hospital in Medellin, Colombia between November 2013 and November 2014.
