Why France has high Fertility? The impact of policies supporting parents

Among reasons being push forward to explain the relatively high level of fertility in France in comparison with other European countries, Family policies and policies supporting parenthood are viewed both by experts and by policy makers as being effective on fertility decisions. We first examine in this paper the fertility and employment relationship, stressing on the impact of children on women's participation in the labor force. Then, we describe how policies supporting parenthood are organized and implemented, facilitating work and life balance, especially family-life for working parents. We argue that a single measure cannot in itself impact on fertility decisions, but instead it is a whole set of measures that create a family-friendly environment likely to allow parents to have the number of children they desire
