Biologisk mangfold i Åfjord kommune

The biodiversity of Åfjord municipality, Central Norway was investigated according to national directives which emphasise mapping of selected land cover types. A total of 122 localities were described based on published reports and field investigations. Fieldwork was concentrated on coastal areas. The localities were assigned as national important (19 localities), regionally important (60 localities) and lo-cally important (30 localities). 13 localities were not given an importance value. Forest was the most numerous of the major land cover types with 52 localities. 24 were classified as coastal spruce forests and 11 as thermophilous broadleaved forests. 25 localities were seashores and among them seven were salt marshes. 14 localities comprise cultural landscapes including nine of coastal heathlands. Important species were also recorded, and 26 red listed species were reported (1 mammal, 14 birds, 1 mollusc, 2 vascular plants, 1 moss, 3 fungi and 4 lichens). A digitalised map showing the extent of the important localities and a database with information on localities and species were prepared in addition to this report
