Packet loss is an inherent phenomenon in WiFi due to its underlying physical medium. At the time of writing, the newest WiFi standard, 802.11n, ensures reliable communication by retransmitting lost packets through a mechanism called ARQ, where each lost packet is retransmitted until it is received. If several clients are connected to the same AP, currently, the only way to achieve reliable communication for all clients is by applying this mechanism individually for each client using multiple unicast flows.
