When producing monocrystalline silicon ingots for the solar cell industry quartz crucibles are most commonly used. A quartz crucible used in the Czochralski (CZ) process will be used to pull ingots for more than 100 hours. During this time, some of the crucible will dissolve into the melt, along with any impurities in the crucible. To avoid this, the a liquid inert (liquinert) crucible can be used. This master thesis investigate two different crucible types, one fused quartz crucible made from natural quartz, and one crucible made from synthetic quartz.
