The effect of subsoil conditions is one of the prominent factors that control both the design and performance of flexible pavement structures. Despite having a wide range of empirical methods from measurements and experience, the quantification of the short-term and long-term physical processes of geo-materials in roads is not yet fully understood. Particularly, subgrade soils have not got the required attention in the characterization of pavement materials although they are known as the “foundation” of the pavement structure.
