Job analysis is the process of collecting and analyzing information about jobs, and is considered as the very foundation of a recruitment process. The purpose of this study is to contribute to new knowledge about job analysis by comparing theory and empirical evidence with the practice in five Norwegian companies. Nine interviews, three observations and five job analysis templates formed the basis of a thematic analysis, which revealed six themes: 1) Creating awareness in the recruitment process, 2) which topics are mapped and how are these described in the job description, 3) data collection methods, 4) information sources, 5) challenges in job analysis and 6) quality assessments.
