In the Late Paleozoic, Svalbard and the Barents Sea were part of a large, shallow embayment located at the north-western corner of the supercontinent Pangea. During the Triassic this embayment was gradually filled with erosional products from the UralianMountains located in south-east. A large delta systemevolved depositing the upper Triassic De Geerdalen and Snadd formations, on Svalbard and in the Barents Sea, respectively. This study investigates the sedimentology of the two formations, through fieldwork in Fulmardalen on Spitsbergen, and through investigations of a 3D seismic reflection cube and a sediment core from the Finnmark Platform in the south-western Barents Sea.
