Les anomalies dentaires, facteur de risque d'impaction alimentaire chez le cheval

Dental issues are impacting many horses. Under different types, they can provoke lesions in the oral cavity that will be translated into clinical signs on the horse. Those symptoms will make the owners contact veterinarians. Another frequent cause of calling veterinarians is the colic: potentially severe abdominal pain. The related symptoms are well known and feared by the owners. Different types of colic have been studied in order to search for the causes and risk factors. Several studies have indicated that one type of colic, impactions, would be more frequent when the subject is presenting dental abnormalities, whereas some others deny this hypothesis. Two studies are undertaken in the framework of this end-of-study work. The first one reveals that the horses affected with large colon impaction have a recent dental care history. The second study indicates that horses with displacement of colon are affected by an important count of dental abnormalities
