Iowa's Child Death Review Report to the Governor and General Assembly Annual Report 2008-2009

The goal of the Iowa Child Death Review Team is to identify those risks or factors in childhood (ages 17 and under) that result in fatal outcomes through a retrospective review of child death cases. A multidisciplinary team approach to reviewing child death cases is conducted. Recommendations made by the Team are based on data, which then are used to identify trends that require systemic solutions. In reviewing the number of child deaths in years 2008 and 2009, one can quickly discern that child death rates declined from 2008 to 2009, decreasing from 386 to 311 deaths.
