Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2019: Australia Report

Australia has a strong base of entrepreneurial activity. Over 1 in 10 Australians are engaged in some form of entrepreneurial activity.Yet overall entrepreneurship in Australia is decreasing, as is the perceived value of entrepreneurship as a career choice. Australians increasingly believe in their capabilities as entrepreneurs, but as a nation ranks #13 in fear of failure being a factor in not pursuing entrepreneurial activity. Australians' lack of perceived opportunities may be holding them back and yet there is clearly an entrepreneurial spirit as Australia ranks #1in intrapreneurship, or Entrepreneurial Employee Activity. These perceptions vary between cities and less populated areas. Australian entrepreneurs in metro cities having a greater belief in external opportunities and their own individual capabilities, but also an increased fear of failure relative to their non-metro counterparts. These are some of the key findings fromt he Australian 2019 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.Over10,000 responses across Australia contributes to this year's report and allows for an analysis on entrepreneurial activity between states as well as between regions and greater metro cities
