Accountability and evaluation within nonprofit organisations

Organisations within the nonprofit sector face complex and diverse accountability relations (Chen, Dyball, and Harrison 2019). The purpose of this thematic review is to discuss three recently published articles all furthering understanding of the complexity of nonprofit accountability, and its discharge to different stakeholder groups. Notably, these articles have an additional common thread of linking accountability with evaluation. Evaluation is considered a mechanism of accountability (Ebrahim 2003). However, as revealed through these articles, the relationship between accountability and evaluation is significantly more nuanced than one being merely a mechanism for the other
