LGBT+ Representation in Japanese Media

2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentationThis research is on the representation of LGBT+ people in Japanese forms of entertainment media. The purpose of this research is to determine how queer people as a whole are treated in Japanese media, and whether this treatment reflects or influences how queer people are treated in reality. I will collect online survey responses from a variety of people to learn how the media they interact with treats LGBT+ characters, and what each participant thinks about the character’s treatment. I will also ask their opinions on real LGBT+ issues, and how they personally view the lives and struggles of the queer community.
