Incidencia y distribución de Eriophyes guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), agente causal de las agallas en guácimo (Guazuma ulmifolia), en Panamá

Sampling was conducted from June to December 2018 to determine the incidence and distribution of the phytophagous mite Eriophyes Guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), in Guacimo trees (Guazuma ulmifolia), in the Republic of Panama. Sampling was carried out randomly, by direct observation of trees in different provinces of the country, to verify the presence of galls on the leaves, the primary damage associated with the pest, and the subsequent verification and identification of the mite inside the galls. The results of the observations allowed determining the incidence and identification of Eriophyes Guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), as the causal agent of galls on Guacimo trees and shrubs in all the provinces sampled in the country (Panama, Coclé, Colón, Darién, Chiriquí, Herrera, Los Santos, and Veraguas). These results represent the first scientific report for our country of Eriophyes Guazumae Cook, the causal agent of galls in Guacimo. Allow us to associate it with the same mite that has been reported in other countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, United States (Florida), and Central American countries such as Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua.  Se realizó un muestreo de junio a diciembre del 2018, para determinar la incidencia y distribución del ácaro fitófago Eriophyes guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), en árboles de guácimo (Guazuma ulmifolia), en la república de Panamá. El muestreo fue realizado al azar, mediante la observación directa de árboles en diferentes provincias del país, para verificar la presencia de agallas en las hojas, principal daño asociado a la plaga, y la posterior verificación e identificación del ácaro en el interior de las agallas. El resultado de las observaciones permitió determinar la incidencia e identificación de Eriophyes guazumae Cook (Eriophyidae), como el agente causal de agallas en árboles y arbustos de guácimo en todas las provincias muestreadas en el país (Panamá, Coclé, Colón, Darién, Chiriquí, Herrera, Los Santos y Veraguas). Estos resultados representan el primer reporte científico para nuestro país de Eriophyes guazumae Cook, agente causal de agallas en guácimo y permite asociarlo al mismo ácaro que ha sido reportado en otros países como Colombia, Venezuela, Estados Unidos (Florida) y en países de Centroamérica como Costa Rica, Honduras y Nicaragua
