Características educativas, demográficas, sociales y culturales de las madres adolecentes en Panamá

Adolescent motherhood is a human drama, because it occurs among young people who have not completed their school cycle, they are poorly prepared physically, psychologically, economically, socially and culturally for motherhood. Many of the pregnancies are the product of undeclared violations or part of a cycle of intergenerational transmission and an extended cultural practice, particularly among the aboriginal groups.   This research was aimed at knowing the geographical distribution of adolescent mothers, their ages, educational level and the civil status of young women. Both documentary analysis and statistical data analysis techniques were used. The results indicate that there are more mothers in the county areas than in the cities, and that the highest frequency of births occurs between 15 to 19 year olds, the highest percentage are in middle-school and at least 72% of the mothers of 10 to 18 years are simply united, a fact that disguises the legal prohibition of marriage before the age of 18.   One of the recommendations to which the study points is that interventions should be focused at district, regional and district levels and define the way to impact the cultural aspects that are influencing adolescent motherhood.La maternidad adolescente es un drama humano, porque ocurre en jóvenes que no han concluido su ciclo escolar, están poco preparadas física, psicológica, económica, social y culturalmente para la maternidad y muchos de los embarazos son producto de violaciones no declaradas o parte de un ciclo de trasmisión intergeneracional y una práctica cultural extendida,  particularmente en los grupos originarios.   Esta investigación se planteó como objetivos conocer la distribución geográfica de las madres adolescentes, las edades, el nivel educativo y la condición civil de las jóvenes. Se utilizó el análisis documental y las técnicas de análisis de datos estadísticos. Los resultados nos indican que hay más niñas madres en las áreas comarcales que en las ciudades, que la mayor frecuencia de nacimientos se da entre los 15 a 19 años, el mayor porcentaje en la premedia y que al menos el 72% de las madres de 10 a 18 años están unidas, hecho que disfraza  la prohibición legal de contraer matrimonio antes de los 18 años.   Una de las recomendaciones a las que apunta el estudio es que se deben focalizar las intervenciones a niveles distritales, regionales y comarcales y definir la manera de impactar los aspectos culturales que están influyendo en la maternidad adolescente
