APLICACIÓN DE LA PRUEBA DE HIPÓTESIS DE PROPORCIÓN Y DE DIFERENCIAS DE PROPORCIONES A LA INCIDENCIA DE MORDEDURAS CANINAS

Animal bites can produce injuries of varying severity with risk and cosmetic squeals, infectious complications, emotional damage and high health care costs. In our country there are scarce and partial statistics and local epidemiology. The target of this research was the population of 1-15 years who attended health facilities in San Miguelito district during the months of January to June 2008. The general objectives of the study were to determine the incidence of children treated for dog bites and attacks, to describe the types of trauma and severity of physical injuries more frequent identification of the time, place, weather station and location of the area at the time of occur from aggression by the dog. We worked with two groups: children treated for other reasons (control group) and children treated for dog bites (experimental group). Variables such as sex, age, severity of the weather station attention and care to present were analyzed. With the results was possible to compile a profile of children who are affected by dog bites: bites on the face and upper limbs made by the dog house male minors from 1 to 5 years during the dry season. Other results were: increasing age of children decreases the number of patients and their bites are in the upper extremities, the incidence of dog bites in children 1 to 15 years was 33.3%. Using hypothesis tests, it was concluded that among children under 15 years, the proportion of people affected by dog bites is higher than the proportion of people affected by other causes of trauma.  Las mordeduras de animales pueden producir lesiones de diversa gravedad con riesgo y secuelas cosméticas, complicaciones infecciosas, daños emocionales y elevados costos sanitarios. En nuestro país son escasos y parciales los datos estadísticos y epidemiológicos locales. El blanco de esta investigación fue la población de 1 a 15 años atendidos en instalaciones de salud del Distrito San Miguelito durante los meses de enero a junio de 2008. Los objetivos generales del estudio fueron determinar la incidencia de menores atendidos por mordeduras y ataques de perro; describir los tipos de traumatismo y la gravedad de las lesiones físicas más frecuentes. Se trabajó con dos grupos: menores atendidos por otras causas (Grupo Control) y menores atendidos por mordeduras de perro (Grupo Experimental). Se analizaron las variables sexo, edad, gravedad de la atención y estación climatológica de la atención. Con los resultados fue posible confeccionar un perfil de los menores que son afectados por mordeduras caninas: mordeduras en la cara y extremidades superiores hechas por el perro de la casa a menores masculinos de 1 a 5 años durante la estación seca. Otros resultados relevantes fueron que al aumentar la edad de los menores, disminuye la cantidad de afectados y las mordidas son en las extremidades superiores; la incidencia por mordeduras caninas en los menores de 1 a 15 años fue 33,3%. Mediante pruebas de hipótesis se concluyó que: entre los menores de 1 a 5 años, la proporción de afectados por mordeduras caninas es mayor que la proporción de afectados por otras causas de traumatismo
