The right to be exempted in Norwegian basic education means that pupils can avoid participating in educational school activities that are perceived as practicing or adhering to another religion or another worldview, or which on the basis of their own religion or worldview are perceived as problematic. The right to exemption constitutes a paradox in several ways, and there is very little information on how it is practiced at school.
