Effects Of Sexuality Counselling Education On Attitudes Of Ss1 Adolescents To Sex And Sexual Behaviour

This study was motivated by the increasing incidence of sexual misbehaviour among adolescents in secondary schools. It was therefore designed to examine the effects of sexuality counselling education on adolescents' attitude to sex and sexual behavivour using the pre-post test experimental design. The study examined two dependent variables, namely attitudes to sex and attitudes to sexual behaviour. The sample consisted of 120 SS1 adolescents in two private secondary schools. The adolescents in the treatment groups were exposed to a sexuality counselling education programme aimed at providing factual information on sex and other sexuality matters. The result showed a statistically significant effect of the treatment on SS1 adolescents' attitudes to sex and sexual behaviour. The findings of the study were interpreted in terms of the enhancement of adolescents' ability to form the right attitudes and beliefs about sex and other sexuality matters
