National audienceThe work week grid filled in by the working respondents to the 1999 French Time-Use survey (Insee) makes it possible to analyze the scheduling of work over the week and its interrelations with individual and couple social position. An empirical typology of work weeks is built using a variant of Optimal Matching (Dynamic Hamming Matching) applied first on the work days then on the simplified work weeks based on the output of this first stage. Five types of work days are identified: standard, long, shifted, fragmented, and rest days. Work weeks fall in five major groups: standard, long, shifted, fragmented and short workweeks.
