Music and technological advancements: Bridging the gap in Nigeria’s tertiary education

Music is a global phenomenon that is integral to humanity, music from the time of yore having cultivated alliances with technology through the production of basic sound sepulchers made from wood, reeds, bones, husks and metals are gradually becoming rivals as technology has grown to become robotic performers, including soft ware’s and machines that simulate human musical functions. These technological developments have implications for Nigeria’s music education. Through historical (qualitative) research method the study highlights some of the technologies and processes that are available for integration into Nigeria’s music education in order to curb the seeming technological gaps in Nigeria’s music programmmes. The paper proposes that all stakeholders in Nigeria’s education chain such as ANIM, education ministries/agencies/examination bodies, should meet and re-strategise on the music philosophy/curriculum that is in amity with learner’s interest and global music trends
