The paper examines the present thrust of China’s interests in Africa. It provides a theoretical basis for the analysis of the consequences that the intensification of such interest in Africa holds for Afro-West relations. A careful examination reveals that China’s strategies geared towards entrenching its interests in Africa would over time whittle down the subsisting entente between Africa and the West. The work concludes on the note that China’s interests in Africa are egocentric, and could be a repetition of the relations that subsist between Africa and its former colonial masters, thus consigning Africa on the route of being condemned to perpetual underdevelopment
