Background: The outcome of newborns with esophageal atresia (EA) and tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) has improved considerably. At present, the overall survival rates reported from developed countries are between 85 and 95%. This, however, is not the case from developing countries, where several factors contribute to higher morbidity and mortality rates.
