Laryngeal mask airway for adenoidectomy in an infant with difficult airway in a resource-limited environment: a case report

Anaesthesia for adenoidectomy may be challenging to the anaesthetist because of shared airway. The standard airway device for adenoidectomy is endotracheal intubation. The usage of Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA)[Classic and Flexible] has been described as an alternative airway with some researchers suggesting it might be superior to endotracheal intubation in some aspects. We described a case of adenoidectomy performed with the use of a Classic LMA to administer anaesthesia after failed multiple attempts with endotracheal intubation in a 22-month old child.The aim of the case report is to demonstrate the usefulness of laryngeal mask airway in a difficult paediatric airway for adenoidectomy in a resource limited environment.Keywords: Adenoidectomy, Difficult airway, Failed Intubation, Laryngeal Mask Airwa
