International audienceThe paper deals with several medieval Armenian sources speaking about the Prophet Muhammad, Islam and the Caliphate. The medieval Armenian authors - Sebeos, Ghevond, Tovma Artsrouni, Hovhannes Draskhanakertsi, Movses Kaghankatvatsi...- give us very interesting material; though in some cases it includes some misrepresented facts. It is important to know that Sebeos, whose work has reached us, is the first author in the universal historiography who mentions Prophet Muhammad. On the one hand, the Medieval Armenian manuscripts can be considered as an important source for research on early Islam and the Arabic Caliphate in the period of the 7th-8th centuries.
