Job Satisfaction Among Construction Workers On Knust Infrastructural Projects

This study investigated three areas of job satisfaction among construction workers using employees of contractors working on Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) infrastructural projects as respondents. First, the study examined the overall job satisfaction level using the short form of the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Second, the researchers determined intrinsic and extrinsic satisfactions of the construction workers. Lastly, the study investigated the influence of demographic variables, i.e. age, educational level, and marital status on the three dimensions of job satisfaction. The results indicated that construction workers on the KNUST infrastructural projects were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied when all aspects of the job were considered. The same neutral result was obtained when their intrinsic satisfaction was assessed. However, the results indicated a slight positive feeling when the extrinsic satisfaction of the workers was investigated. There was no significant relationship between the three dimensions of job satisfaction and the selected independent variables - age, educational level, and marital status.
