This paper examines the effect of corruption on governance and leadership in nation building, and the instrumentality by which the prevalent democratic system has been trying to curb/ eradicate corruption and instill good governance in Nigeria. The paper believes that fighting corruption at all levels is a priority, as it constitutes a serious barrier to effective resource mobilisation and allocation, and diverts resources away from activities that are vital to poverty eradication and sustainable economic development.
