The paper is an anatomization of some of the general connections between law and justice – justice as an ideal, law as pragmatic. It alleges that the highest claim that can be made for law or a legal system is that it is the best possible. Justice is regarded as the goal, one of the means to which is law. The paper considers just laws, virtue of justice, paradox and justice and freedom.
