Attitudes Of Nurses And Midwives Toward People Living With Hiv/Aids In Minna Municipality: Implications For Guidance And Counselling

This study aims at measuring the attitudes of Nurses and Midwives toward people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Minna Municipal and the extent to which academic qualification and years of experience influence their attitudes. With the aid of a structured 55 item – questionnaire, information was elicited from 195 randomly selected respondents from both the private and the public hospitals and clinics in Minna Municipality. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi- square and Kruskal - Wallis test. It was discovered that while there was no significant difference in the attitudes of respondents based on their qualifications, the reverse was the case based on years of experience. It is however recommended that more frequent and well targeted refresher courses (workshops and seminars) be organized for nurses and midwives in Minna Municipality to encourage more open and healthy attitudes toward the People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).Keywords: Attitude; HIV/AIDS; Nurses; Midwives; People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA
