Different patterns of associating oil-palm (Elaeis guineensis) with fruit tree and food crops (oil palm + fruit tree + food crop + legume crop, oil palm + food crop, and oil palm monocrop) are being tested in Yaounde since 1999. Oil-palm and fruit tree growth, crop yields, labour and crop prices were collected from planting (1999) to first flowering of oil palm in 2003. The system associating fruit trees, food crops and legume trees (as mulch) gave the longest oil palm 4th leaf, 242 cm, and the biggest crown diameter, 422 cm, 24 months after planting. Maize, cocoyam and soybean yields were also high in that system. Although associated with highest variable costs, US $ 2,254.19, this system was most profitable (US $ 1508.45 of net income) wi...
