Background: Intestinal perforation resulting from complicated typhoid fever still causes high morbidity and mortality. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the outcome of its surgical management in Nigerian children. Materials and Methods: Emergency laparotomy and repair of the ileum was performed on 46 children with typhoid ileal perforation at the FederalMedical Centre (FMC), Azare, Nigeria, between January 2004-December 2008. This was followed by copious peritoneal lavage with warm normal saline and mass closure of the abdomen.
