Embedding a curriculum based information literacy programme in Nigerian schools

Despite the publicity so far given to information literacy by information delivery experts, one still discovers that most Nigerian children and youths know little or nothing about information literacy. Even in this era of information literacy, many are still not well informed. This paper made a case for the development and integration of information literacy education curriculum into the Nigerian education system at all levels. As information literacy issues are currently one of the world's challenges, the need to encourage its education through the development of authentic curriculum for different levels of education becomes imperative. The paper concludes by asserting that knowledge cannot be acquired without adequate information literacy being instilled into the citizen of all ages, race and kinds. When this is done and achieved, the nation can boast of a well-rounded citizens that would have information literacy consciousness, awareness and understanding at early age, which would ultimately act as the best way to teach them on how to seek, evaluate and use information efficiently and effectively. The researchers‟ recommends amongst all that the government through the ministry of education should ensure they embed information literacy into the curriculum of all schools, starting from the primary levels of education to the tertiary levels of education.Keywords: Curriculum, Information, Literacy, Curriculum, Schoo
