Assessment of collection development policy in academic libraries: Case study of National Open University of Nigeria

This study assessed collection development policy at National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Library in Nigeria. The study set out to find out if there exists a collection development policy at NOUN library. The research design adopted for the study was a descriptive survey. The population of the study was stratified into two main categories namely users of the library and the library staff. In selecting the students and lecturers convenient sampling technique was employed to select the students from the school. The total population for the study made up of library staff, faculty members and the students were used. Therefore, sample size for the study was two hundred (200) made up of 100 students, 50 faculty members and 50 library staff. Data for the study was collected through interviews, Observation and questionnaires. Simple statistics was used to analyze the questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed that NOUN library has no written and approved collection development policy but it has stocked both print and non-print materials for their users.Keywords: Assessment, Collection, Development, Policy, National, Open, University, Nigeri
