Publication and research productivity among academic librarians in southeast Nigeria

The study examined the pattern of research and publication among academic librarians. Descriptive survey design was adopted .Proportionate sampling technique was used to obtain a sample of 57 academic librarians in 4 university libraries in southeast of Nigeria. Aquestionaire was used in data collection. Mean scores, standard d eviation, frequencies and percentages were used to analyse data. The result of the analyses among others, reveals that academic librarians have poor research and publication output, publish mainly in local journals, and their greatest reason for research i s to earn promotion. The study recommends the need to step up interest in research and publication, not to concentrate publications in local journals, engage more in collaborative research.Key Words: Academic, Librarians, Research, Productivity, Publication, University, Librarie
