Public – Private Partnership initiative and provision of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in academic libraries in the south - east geo-political zone, Nigeria

This study ex amine d the relationship between public -private partnership in the provision of Information Communication Technology (ICT) resources and academic library services in the South - East geo -political zone Nigeria. Seventeen (17) academic institutions (made up of nine universities and eight polytechnics) were surveyed. The population comprises 227 librarians in the 17 academic institutions under studied. A set of questionnaire was used to elucidate responses, while the datagathered were analyzed using the Pea rson Product Moment Correlation(PPMC) and tested at 0.05 alpha level of significant . The result shows that there is a positive significant relationship (r critical = 0.195 is < the r calculated =326) between public -private partnership provision of per sonal computers /computer services, library Internet access, local/ area network connectivity and academic library services. Suggestions were made for the management of academic libraries in the South -East, Nigeria to intensify efforts at collaboration wi th the public -private sectors, as this would enhance information flow, storage and dissemination.Key Words: Academic , Library, Services, Public -private , partnership , Initiative, Information , Communication , Technology
